Liverpool must approach incredible 9-goal finisher with £5.3m release-clause

We’d be very surprised if Liverpool were not already scouting Luka Jovic heavily…

The Serbian is only 20-years-old but remarkably has nine goals for Frankfurt in the Bundesliga already this term, while on loan from Benfica.

Including the Europa League, he’s on 12.

Below, you’ll see highlights of a recent performance against Fortuna Dusseldorf, in which he scored five goals – two of which were genuinely exceptional.

In doing so, Jovic became the first player since Robert Lewandowski to bag five in a Bundesliga fixture.

What makes Jovic attainable is that Bild claim Frankfurt have a £5.3m option to make his deal from Benfica permanent – so surely the Portuguese would be willing to sell elsewhere for a higher fee.

Stylistically, Jovic has similarities with the legendary Pole. He’s tall, athletic, a superb finisher and loves to link up with fellow attackers by using his technique to produce flicks and one-twos.

Liverpool currently have a number of strikers on our books who we’re not sure will be at the club long-term…

Daniel Sturridge is doing well as Roberto Firmino’s backup, but his contract expires in the summer and as of yet there have been no talks regarding an extension. Divock Origi is sadly not up to scratch and should leave to find first-team football elsewhere, while Dom Solanke will clearly benefit from a loan, as he’s simply not getting minutes under Jurgen Klopp this term.

Even Firmino is struggling in terms of his goalscoring and has notched only four times this term, despite being used heavily. His role has slightly changed, with Mo Salah often the most advanced central attacker, but this does suggest Liverpool currently lack a natural striker with goalscoring instincts who has his best years ahead of him.

Jovic’s price-tag and what he could offer us make this an intriguing idea, in our opinion.
