Major double injury scare – Liverpool sweat over fitness of star duo ahead of Burnley

Jurgen Klopp could be forced into making changes when Liverpool continue their Premier League campaign away at Burnley on Wednesday evening.

Sadio Mane has emerged as a doubt to feature at Turf Moor due to a foot injury he picked up during Sunday’s 1-0  win over Everton in the Merseyside derby.

The Reds are meanwhile also waiting on the fitness of left-back Andrew Robertson after he sustained a dead leg in the victory at Anfield over the weekend.

Both were standout figures for Liverpool in that game, with Mane serving as his side’s brightest attacking spark and Robertson posing an ever-present threat on the forward’s overlap.

Discussing the pair, Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com: “We have to see, but we have opportunities, options. We can make different line-ups. We’ll see.”

“But Sadio got a real knock on his foot, we’ll have to see how that ends. He played a game, huh?! He was so quick, unbelievable. But that’s only one thing.”

“Hopefully all the rest [will be OK]. Robbo I think [has a] dead leg, his hip, so in the moment we have to see.”

Liverpool will welcome back Jordan Henderson for the midweek trip after the skipper carried out his one-game suspension against Everton.

Xherdan Shaqiri provides one immediate solution to Mane’s absence having become well tuned to Klopp’s attacking system and approach in recent weeks.

The Swiss international could be deployed on the left of a 4-3-3, whilst there may also be an opportunity for Daniel Sturridge to earn another start in place of a misfiring Roberto Firmino.

Alberto Moreno is an ready-made replacement for Robertson at the back, with Klopp unlikely to take any chances on the Scotland international ahead of a tough fixture away to Bournemouth at the weekend.
