Jurgen Klopp has been told to sell Divock Origi this summer despite his series of huge goals this season because the Belgian is not at the level the Reds require.
Steve Nicol, the former Reds man, was the pundit who made the comments – which are not actually as strange as they first sound.
It would be a brutal move to sell Origi now after everything he has done, but football is a ruthless business.
Via the Daily Express, Nicol said: “They should get rid of him, let him go, depends on how harsh or nicely you want to put it. I don’t feel that Divock Origi makes our squad better.
“He’s going to be remembered forever and a day, not only for the Champions League goal in the final, but obviously for the one against Barcelona and against Everton… but unfortunately, as a player, he’s just not good enough to be playing at the level Liverpool need.”

As Nicol says, Origi is probably not at the level the Reds require long-term, and cashing in this summer would not be a bad thing if the right offer comes in.
His stock will never be higher and if Origi wants more regular football, then Klopp will let him go. Interest in him is sure to be high.
If he does go, a replacement would be needed with Daniel Sturridge already confirmed as being on the way out. While Origi could leave, it’s probably just as likely at this stage that he stays and plays a role next season as a substitute.
Whatever happens this summer, Origi will go down in Reds history books as a Champions League goal scorer and winner – he will be remembered fondly forever.
