Tottenham left-back Danny Rose has admitted it was hard-work having to share a dressing room with the Liverpool players who recently beat him in a Champions League Final.
Rose, Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Eric Dier were part of Gareth Southgate’s most recent England squad that came third in the Nations League – as were Jordan Henderson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez.
“You are reminded every day you lost and that was a unique experience for me,” he told BBC Sport.
“It’s not draining coming to play for your country…
“It is a bit draining having lost last weekend and having to share the camp with Liverpool players.
“I have never been through that myself. I was definitely tired from a long season with my club and having to come to England didn’t help.”
However, this was not because Hendo, Trent or Gomez were in any way disrespectful – with Rose telling the reporter that, “I couldn’t have asked for them to have been much better than they have.”
We’re just glad our England players will get a proper rest, now.
However, the likes of Mo Salah, Naby Keita and Sadio Mane will be active all summer due to their participation in the AFCON, while our Brazilians will feature at the Copa America (although Fabinho has bizarrely not been selected).
Liverpool’s first friendlies of the summer begin early in July, and a pre-season tour of America is already scheduled.
We just hope by the time August comes around, everybody is fit and ready for another crack at the Premier League – although we have trophies to play for in terms of the Charity Sheild and Super Cup.
Bring it on!
