We imagine Jurgen Klopp will be pretty pleased with this fixture anomaly.
Liverpool have been scheduled to face Norwich on Premier League Opening Night, which is the Friday before the weekend starts, on August 9.
Our next game after that is the UEFA Super Cup clash with Chelsea, which when you’re in the business of winning trophies, is fairly important!
That takes place on the Tuesday of the next week on August 14, giving Liverpool a full five days’ rest.
Our opponents though face Manchester United on August 11, meaning they have a far harder game than us, and two days’ less rest, beforehand.
The Super Cup takes place in Istanbul, so any added time for travelling and preparation will be massively appreciated.
Liverpool also have the Community Shield before the Premier League season starts, plus a yet-to-be-scheduled Club World Cup!
So while congestion may be an issue, there’ll be plenty of opportunities for silverware – which we think is brilliant.
