Sky Sports pundit Darren Bent claims that Liverpool could shock Europe this summer by signing Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax.
Reports surrounding the 19-year-old prodigy suggest that PSG and Barcelona are leading the race for the Dutchman’s signature, but Bent believes that the Reds still have a chance.
Bent told Sky Sports News, via the Sport Review: “They may go out and surprise everybody and go and get De Ligt, Virgil’s Dutch team-mate.
“If they can manage to pull that one off and those two can play together, that would be brilliant.”

Reds linked with move for bargain £30 million star – and simply must make a move
With the wages that his agent, Mino Raiola, would demand, it is hard to see De Ligt starting the season in a red shirt in August, but the movements surrounding Dejan Lovren perhaps make a move slightly more plausible.
If the Croatian does move on, with one team in Italy particularly keen, a replacement would need to be found, so the Reds would be in the market for a defender.
Even then, though, De Ligt would need to take control of the matter and remove his agent from the equation to accept a lower weekly wage, which is very improbable.
