Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Winks is still hurting after Liverpool’s 2-0 victory in the Champions League final last month, and has spoken out about VAR.
The Londoners found themselves on the back foot a few moments into the game as the Reds were awarded a penalty following Moussa Sissoko handling the ball in the box.
“I was praying for VAR to step in and disallow the penalty. I am biased but in my opinion it was not a penalty,” Winks told TalkSPORT.
The one thing Winks is neglecting to mention is that VAR is the reason they were able to progress beyond the quarter-finals as Raheem Sterling’s late ‘winner’ was chalked off.
It’s all well and good sitting on one side of the fence, or the other, but don’t pick when you think VAR is a good idea – it’s not there to help any one team, it’s there to make sure correct decisions are given.
The Spurs man may not agree with the use of VAR at all, but this is a relatively bad take – especially when you consider the context.
Liverpool fans on social media haven’t taken Winks’ comments too well, and have voiced their opinions online. Have a read of some below:
