Liverpool kick off their pre-season with a short trip to Tranmere Rovers’ Prenton Park on the other side of the River Mersey.

Simon Mignolet starts between the sticks, perhaps a little ahead of schedule for the Belgian, as Caoimhin Kelleher sustained an injury in recent weeks.

Fans were hoping new signing Sepp van den Berg would feature, but the Dutchman isn’t illegible, and instead the Reds go with a defence of Joe Gomez, Nathan Phillips, Nathaniel Clyne and Yasser Larouci.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner and Adam Lallana make up the midfield trio in what will surely be an opportunity all three will grab by the scruff of its neck.

With superstars Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Bobby Firmino on international duty over the summer, Ryan Kent, Harry Wilson and Rhian Brewster have been given the nod in their place to take on Tranmere – they’ll be desperate to turn Jurgen Klopp’s head tonight.

Youngsters Bobby Duncan and Paul Glatzel are set to make an appearance in the second half in what should be an exciting opportunity for fans to see the mercurial duo in action.

Senior players Joel Matip and Fabinho are also to come on after half-time.
