Liverpool got their preparations for the new campaign off to a flier on Thursday evening with a resounding 6-0 away win against Tranmere Rovers on the other side of the River Mersey.
Jurgen Klopp fielded several up-and-coming youngsters with the likes of Jordan Henderson and Virgil van Dijk still not back from their holidays, and almost each and every one of them were mightily impressive.

Imminent Reds signing spotted watching on from the stands in Tranmere demolition
Curtis Jones scored and bossed the match at times; Rhian Brewster netted twice (watch the two goals by clicking here); Adam Lewis and Yasser Larouci both did excellent impersonations of Andy Robertson; and Bobby Duncan and Paul Glatzel continued their form from last season with an impressive showing.
One name, though, stood out for a lot of Reds fans above the rest: Dutch defender Ki-Jana Hoever. As the following tweets show, people were very impressed with the 17-year-old, who made his senior debut aged 16 in January against Wolves.
Many of those who featured against Tranmere will get another opportunity to shine against Bradford on Sunday, while some, including Hoever, will be heading on the tour of the USA to come after that.
For all of them, not least the defender, there are exciting times ahead.
