Nathaniel Clyne is set for an extended period on the sidelines with a serious injury, leaving the Reds short of defensive cover unless someone else comes in during the transfer window.
All the signs are that another signing won’t be made – but Reds fans think they know who would make the perfect addition.
Former PSG and Barcelona man Dani Alves, who was named the best player at the Copa America this summer, is available on a free transfer.

Massive news: ‘Very good’ Italian source make Nicolas Pepe and LFC claim – but there’s a catch
It wouldn’t be a typical Reds signing given he’s well into his 30s, but we can certainly see the potential benefits of it. He’d add experience, more winning mentality and already knows the likes of Roberto Firmino and Fabinho.
It probably won’t happen, in truth, but that’s not to say that Reds fans don’t want it to. We wouldn’t be against it ourselves as long as the wages were right.
As these tweets show, lots of Reds fans are keen.
Seen a few shouts for it on here but signing Dani Alves this summer is a fantastic idea.
While he’ll be on big wages, that balances out to probably around a £10m or so signing, he’ll fit in with the Brazilians, he adds experience while Trent would learn so much off him.

Clyne was great cover for either full back position. Now we have to sign a specialist senior full back. I keep coming back to Dani Alves (Bosman) but I don't think that'll happen.#lfc
