Liverpool are set to play Chelsea tomorrow for the UEFA Super Cup in Turkey, but one Blues star may be unable to feature.
World Cup winner N’Golo Kante is a doubt for the game, after Frank Lampard confirmed he is currently nursing a knock.
With the pitiful performance they put in against Manchester United in the opening weekend of the Premier League season, they’ll be severely hindered if the Frenchman is unfit to return to the starting eleven.
He didn’t feature in the game, and was only named on the bench at Old Trafford.
An injury is never something to celebrate, but Chelsea’s midfield without Kante will be considerably easier for Liverpool to overpower.
Lampard was speaking to the press ahead of the big clash this week. “He picked up another small injury in the game, so we are assessing that,” he’s quoted as saying by GOAL.
“I pick the best team to win the game, regardless of age. [Mason] Mount deserves his chance on merit, I won’t fear to play young players.
“In terms of how we set up, I really liked some of our aggressive off-the-ball work. We have to be adaptable and respect the strengths of our opponents.
“There may be subtle changes of our approach.”
The Reds will be hoping to continue their winning ways by winning another European trophy in Istanbul on Wednesday night.
