Liverpool are reportedly prepared to let experienced defender Dejan Lovren join Serie A giants Roma, as long as the Italians are ready to pay up £15million for him.
Paul Joyce has confirmed that the Croatian international is aware that he’s fourth choice, behind Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez, and is presumably unhappy with that.
AC Milan were also said to be interested in Lovren which should hopefully convince the Giallorossi to give the Reds what they are asking for.
Lovren is a decent defender – he’d make for a good signing for a club like Roma or Milan. In the capital, he’d replace Kostas Manolas, which is certainly a downgrade, but they’d get his experience.
Admittedly, this would be a strange move for Liverpool as it’d leave us with just three senior centre backs as Ki Jana Hoever and Sepp van den Berg are surely not ready to make the leap.
That being said, Fabinho can serve as emergency cover for one of Gomez or Matip and we likely wouldn’t feel much of an impact in our back line.
It does seem that Jurgen Klopp is the type of manager that will not force an unhappy player to stay at a club, with Simon Mignolet gone and now Lovren looking likely to leave.
