Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian has nothing but praise for his defensive team-mates at Anfield, after playing with them twice.
The Reds kicked off the competitive season with two wins in the Premier League, and by lifting the UEFA Super Cup after defeating Chelsea in Istanbul on penalties, with Adrian the hero.
The Spaniard has played a more involved role than he may have expected at Liverpool, as Alisson sustained an injury in the first half of the first game of the season against Norwich.
So far, so food for the former West Ham stopper on Merseyside, as we are yet to lose a game with him between the sticks.
Adrian isn’t taking much of the credit though as he believes the Reds’ back four are incredible. “It’s really easy to play with them in front of you because they were the best defenders in the Premier League [in 2018-19] and we have one of the best defenders in the world,” he told the club’s official website.
“I think, for me as a goalkeeper, they make easy decisions. Honestly, they defend everything like animals! They help me a lot.
“I played against them [the forwards] many times, so now I play with them and I’m enjoying how they play from behind.
“I’m really happy for them because they are doing really well, they have a great connection between them. They are good players individually, but they are good friends in the dressing room also and you can see that feeling on the pitch.”
It must be a treat to play in goal with a back four of – what is usually – Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Andrew Robertson.
Adrian’s contribution has been second to none though. He’s come in for the Reds and done a decent job, in the absence of Alisson.
