Xabi Alonso responds to question about whether he’ll manage ‘special’ Liverpool one day

Xabi Alonso will manage his first match as a senior level coach this Saturday as Real Sociedad B take on Burgos in Segunda Division B, the third tier of Spanish football.

Before his managerial career has even properly begun, though, Alonso has already been asked about where his future ambitions lie, and whether he might be seen in the Anfield dugout at some point in the coming seasons.

The former midfielder, who was coached by the likes of Rafa Benitez, Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti during his stellar playing career, certainly would not rule it out, however, he stated that he is more than happy with what Jurgen Klopp is doing at the current time.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Alonso said: “You know how special Liverpool is, once a red always a red and that’s not a slogan, that’s not a logo – it’s real and we share that belonging.

“At the moment they have an absolutely fantastic manager and we all as Liverpool fans are thrilled with Jurgen [Klopp], with what he’s doing.

“You could feel he was the man because of the way he embraced the Liverpool culture, the way he connected with the fans – you could see that he could make a great job. Even the best expectations he has fulfilled. He’s the man at the moment.”

Most Reds fans would like to see Alonso back at Anfield as a coach at some point, though of course, Klopp still has a few years left on Merseyside yet.
