David Luiz gave away a blatant penalty following a foul on Mo Salah during Liverpool’s 3-1 weekend victory, but the Brazilian thinks he was harshly done by.
The central defender clearly tugged Salah’s shirt, but Luiz reckons players with extra-large tops will now get the benefit of receiving penalties all of the time!
Not if you don’t them in the box, David…
“I spoke with Mo and he said ‘I didn’t feel you touch me, that’s why I didn’t go down to the floor,” he told Goal.
“But now with VAR, you cannot see the power so it is difficult for the referees.
“If you play with an extra-large shirt now, there could be a penalty every time.”
In truth, the gulf between the two sides was enormous.
Arsenal tried to contain us by using a midfield diamond, but we had acres of room down the flanks and Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold were a constant threat.
It took some time for us to break through, but it was inevitable.
Fabinho was sensational in the middle and Mo Salah proved his jaw-dropping ability with his second-half brace.
A similar performance will be required next weekend against Sean Dyche’s typically difficult Burnley side – who will play a more physical brand of direct football.
