Arsenal legend Lee Dixon has expressed his disappointment in Trent Alexander-Arnold’s performance after Liverpool 1-0 win over Sheffield United.
In a game which saw many of our players under-perform, the former Gunner is using the right-back as an example of what will happen next.
Dixon knows that Jurgen Klopp will give the team a telling off for their performance against the Blades, and is backing Trent and co. to turn it around in their next game.
Liverpool are up against Red Bull Salzburg in their next fixture, as the Reds look to make up from their poor result in Naples – let’s hope Lee’s right!
“Alexander-Arnold is a perfect example [of a player under-performing],” he told the Express.
“He probably had his worst game that I’ve seen him have for Liverpool in a long time. He was giving the ball away, sloppy with his crosses.
“If he plays below-par and you don’t really notice it, you can go a few weeks with him going through the motions like that.
“If he has a game like that, though, the manager will be on him, the team=mates will be on him. Next game he plays, you watch how well he plays.
“He’ll have had a little bit of a telling-off, and he’s got to have the standards that he did before.”
Trent probably is the perfect example for this point though, as the full-back does put in a weak shift every so often, but it usually goes under the radar as we win.
That being said, the lad is still just 20 years old so we probably shouldn’t put all the weight of being the best right back in the country on his shoulder – he probably does that enough himself.
Alexander-Arnold will likely bounce back against Salzburg – it wouldn’t surprise me if he bags himself an assist or two, to be honest!
