Liverpool and Switzerland winger Xherdan Shaqiri says that he is not happy with his situation in terms of a lack of playing time at Anfield, but that he has no problem with manager Jurgen Klopp.
When the Swiss arrived from Stoke City last summer, he knew that he would initially be a squad player. Over the course of last season, he proved to be a vital part of the squad at times.
This season, though, he is yet to start a game and has been injured for the last couple of weeks when he would certainly have been given a chance against MK Dons at the very least.
Speaking to Schweizer Illustrierte, a Swiss publication, he said: “Of course I’m dissatisfied that I do not play more often. If that is not the reaction of a pro, he’s in the wrong job. I have never had a problem with the coach. He knows that I am ready.
“Not for a second have I regretted the move to Liverpool. Apart from the fact that I would like to play more, I’m happy. I have a certain status in the team because I am one of the more experienced players. I think I’m one of the leaders.
“Over the years I have become calmer and more patient. I would probably last longer in Munich today and waited for my chance. I know that I have to give myself more time for my career steps now.”

That last line is particularly interesting, in that Shaqiri hints he has learned over his career that playing for a top side sporadically might well be better than being the main man at a team lower down the table.
He played a crucial role in the Reds winning a sixth European Cup last year and scored goals against the likes of Manchester United. Shaqiri will definitely back himself to do the same this season as well once he is fit again.
