Steven Gerrard linked with second move this week as Rangers continue to fly

After being linked with a move to Leeds United earlier this week, Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is being lined up by Besiktas according to the Daily Mail, as the Turkish side look set to sack under pressure coach Abdullah Avci.

Rangers are currently top of the Scottish Premier League by two points having won seven and lost one of their eight matches so far this season. They have scored 26 goals – an average of more than three per game – and have conceded just five.

Philippe Coutinho could be crucial to Reds next signing as Jurgen Klopp linked with move for former favourite

The big question for Gerrard as he plots his way to Anfield’s top job will be whether or not he needs to move elsewhere first before becoming the Reds boss.

Many have suggested him as the replacement for Jurgen Klopp when the German departs, but he might benefit from adding more experience to his belt somewhere else first to make the best of his career.

Most would suggest that move might be to the Premier League rather than abroad, though Besiktas could be an intriguing proposition.

Newcastle United were linked with him over the summer but he sensibly opted to avoid heading to St James’ Park and the chaos that Mike Ashley oversees.
