Naby Keita hasn’t had an easy run of things at Liverpool so far – the Guinean international has seemingly been unable to stay fit long enough to string together a good few games.
But the tides appear to be changing for the midfielder as he’s put together two impressive performances in recent weeks, and is winning over fans.
Fans always knew of Keita’s ability, but his injury record over the last two years has left few things to be desired.
Now the No.8 has responded to a question he was asked on how he feels about not being automatically selected after staying fit and impressing in recent weeks.
“The key thing is to avoid picking up injuries. Any player in our squad, when they’re at 100%, has a great chance to start the games,” he told the Metro.
“It doesn’t affect me [his price-tag]. I always had the ambition to play for a big club and I’ve worked hard to get to where I am today.
“It was difficult getting the injury but I’ve worked hard to get back and get to the condition I’m now in. I’ll be continuing in that vain to avoid injuries and hopefully perform week in and week out for the team.”
It’s definitely a good thing that Naby is quite humble about his chances so far, and it’s wise that he recognises it’s his injures that have got in the way – that’s all.
If Keita is able to stay fit for long enough, I’m sure he’ll establish himself as one of the best offensive midfielders in the Premier League before we know it.
