We loved Daniel Agger at centre-back for the Reds.
The Dane stayed with us when he was wanted by Barcelona, such was his love for the club – and managed to play with flair and guile as a centre-back.
Sadly, his career ended early due to injury and he retired at just 31 three years ago.
But with Liverpool due to play Aston Villa on December 17 in the EFL Cup and then in the Club World Cup a day later in Qatar, Agger has (we think jokingly) offered his services for one last hurrah!
Luis Garcia, our Champions League winning right-winger got in on the act, alongside Peter Crouch and Jamie Carragher:
I will be there if you need me⚽️👨🏻🦳😂

In reality though, we’re going to field a very, very young side, rather than an ageing one.
Neil Critchley will manage a side that will basically be an U23 XI, with Jurgen Klopp’s first-team unavailable due to Club World Cup commitments.
It’s basically a free shot for the kids, though. If they win, it’ll be an enormous upset and will boost their chances of being involved with us permanently.
