Martin O’Neill has admitted his surprise at the fact Ibou Konate was not sent off during Saturday’s Merseyside derby at Anfield.
The Frenchman, who had already been booked for an earlier challenge on Amadou Onana, somewhat cynically fouled Everton striker Beto as the Blues attempted to counter attack during the second half.
Referee Craig Pawson decided against dismissing the former RB Leipzig defender despite having already sent off Ashley Young for two bookable offences in the first half.
Jurgen Klopp immediately replaced our No. 5 with Joel Matip in a decision which signalled our German tactician’s relief to still have 11 men on the pitch.
Liverpool would go on to earn all three points thanks to a brace from Mo Salah but O’Neill was keen to discuss the controversy while featuring on talkSPORT earlier today.

“If Young’s off, Konate’s got to go!” 🟥
😡 “I would’ve been apoplectic on the touchline. It should’ve been levelled up.”
