Fabrizio Romano has shared news of a further development behind the scenes at Liverpool in terms of off-field recruitment.

The recent instalment of Michael Edwards as CEO of Football was swiftly followed by Richard Hughes’ appointment as sporting director earlier this week, and another important backroom role is set to be finalised.

In the early hours of Friday morning, Romano posted on XMark Burchill will follow Richard Hughes to Liverpool. It’s all decided for Bournemouth chief scout to join #LFC. It will be signed soon but agreement’s already in place. Edwards, Hughes and Burchill will be part of the new structure.”

We often see managers recruiting players with whom they worked in the past once they move to a new club, and it appears that the same goes for boardroom and off-field appointments.

Just days after coming on board at Liverpool, Hughes seems set to bring Burchill with him, with the 43-year-old having played a key role in some of Bournemouth’s most successful transfers in recent years, as per The Telegraph.

The former Celtic striker helped to land the likes of Nathan Ake, David Brooks and Philip Billing, with the former going on to win the treble with Manchester City, who paid £41m for him (Sky Sports). The second of that trio was on target for Wales last night as they thrashed Finland 4-1 in their Euro 2024 qualifying play-off.

He’ll now team up with a long-established scouting team at Anfield, which includes chief scout Barry Hunter and head of recruitment Dave Fallows, adding a well-regarded face to an already trusted unit.

Burchill’s working relationship with Hughes at Bournemouth has obviously enabled them to develop a firm trust in one another, and that now looks set to be continued at Liverpool, whose new off-field structure is rapidly taking shape. We just need the right manager now!
