The former Liverpool defender took aim at sacked boss Arne Slot over his treatment of the Egyptian winger this term.
This comes with the attacker set to leave the club a year early ahead of his contract officially expiring next summer.
Dejan Lovren calls out Arne Slot over Mo Salah decline
In comments shared from Ismael Mahmoud’s exclusive with WinWIn, the 36-year-old highlighted the stark difference in the relationship Salah held with Jurgen Klopp and his Dutch successor.
“You see what one person can do to someone."
🚨 𝗘𝗫𝗖𝗟𝗨𝗦𝗜𝗩𝗘 @winwinallsports 🎙️ | Dejan Lovren on the stark contrast between Mohamed Salah’s relationship with Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot:
🗣️ "With Klopp, he had a really beautiful relationship. It wasn't always perfect,…— Ismael Mahmoud – إسماعيل محمود (@ismaeelmahmoudd) June 7, 2026
And we’d agree that, judging by reports coming out of the club, and from Arne’s demeanour, the nature of his relationship with the players was somewhat different. Of course, that’s something which, much like live betting, can shift quickly depending on momentum and confidence levels.

Slot certainly cut a comparatively calmer figure at Anfield; less prone to bursts of emotion and seemingly less willing to connect with his squad and the fanbase on a deeper level.
However, we do take serious exception to the lazy notion peddled by a number of observers and commentators that Liverpool’s success in 2024/25 was down to the team the manager inherited.
The lazy narrative RE Arne Slot and Jurgen Klopp’s squad
We say this with love, Dejan, but you’ve not got this particular call right: “Now people will say, ‘Yeah, but he was also good in the first year Slot came.’ But I don’t think it was like that, because I think he [Slot] just got the team as it was.”
We do agree that Arne Slot’s decision-making around the structure of the side and the isolation of Mo Salah on the right wing in 2025/26 was incredibly problematic, to say the least.
But the former Feyenoord boss very much made a team closer to his own image last term, actively integrating tweaks that helped Liverpool’s early charge for a 20th Premier League title.
Ryan Gravenberch, for instance, was an absolute revelation as the holding six, and need we remind fans that Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz collectively enjoyed their best seasons on the left flank.
And Salah? The Egyptian King embarked on another record-breaking campaign that yielded 57 goal contributions (34 goals and 23 assists) in 52 games (across all competitions).
If we can all agree that Slot didn’t platform our No.11 well this term, then surely we can all appreciate that the head coach had a hand in enabling our right winger to excel the season prior.
