One transfer insider has backed Liverpool to potentially make a move for a Premier League full-back next year.
The wide defensive positions have been cited as an area of concern at Anfield in the early weeks of the season, with the performances of Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez coming in for criticism from some fans and journalists.
Kostas Tsimikas was given a go from the start against Fulham last weekend, but he also failed to convince and was substituted at half-time.
To that end, Liverpool have been reliably touted as one of the clubs who could potentially seek to bring in Tyrick Mitchell on a free transfer in 2027, with his contract at Crystal Palace expiring next summer.
Liverpool backed for potential Tyrick Mitchell move
Ex-Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider: “Man United aren’t going to be the only club interested in signing Mitchell. For any club looking for a left-back in the Premier League, there are not many options who come up with such consistent performances as Mitchell has for Crystal Palace.
“He impresses every single week, gets on with his job, he’s terrific defensively and he’s improved the attacking side of his game as well. He’s a top, top player.
“When you look at those top clubs, you’ve got Liverpool, where Milos Kerkez has been questioned a bit and maybe isn’t as consistent as they’d like him to be. Then you’ve got Chelsea, who are always going to be interested in this type of deal where they can bring a quality player in without having to spend big.
“Either of those clubs could make a move for Mitchell, because as I say, he will tick a number of boxes for them and could be a very good addition.”

Are Liverpool likely to move for Mitchell in 2027?
Could Mitchell be a viable transfer option for Liverpool in the next few months?
Having racked up more than 200 Premier League appearances, he’d bring vast experience of the division with him to Anfield. Also, the Londoner would come in without impacting the Reds’ non-homegrown squad quota, which is currently at its permissible maximum of 17.
He’s shown his propensity to make an impact in the final third by scoring twice in Palace’s recent win at Fulham, and his underlying performance metrics in the early weeks of the campaign (via Fotmob) illustrate his creative influence and indefatigable running.

As Brown pointed out, Mitchell has plenty of positives going for him as a potential signing for Liverpool next year, although there are a couple of standout reasons why FSG mightn’t pursue him even if he doesn’t extend his contract at Selhurst Park.
At 27, the Eagles defender is past the upper age limit of a typical signing by the Reds’ current ownership. Also, under Oliver Glasner and Pierre Sage, he’s more accustomed to playing as a wing-back than a full-back, so the latter setup might obligate him to act with the handbrake on more frequently.
Liverpool may well be in the market for a left-back next summer if Tsimikas departs at the end of his contract, and a potential free transfer for the Palace player could at least be worth exploring.
