Andoni Iraola told Jamie Carragher that Liverpool “will definitely sign some players” this summer.

The Liverpool Echo’s Paul Gorst shared the Basque head coach’s comments on X (formerly Twitter) amid the club’s ongoing push to sign Bradley Barcola.

On Thursday, the Merseysiders had a £50m opening bid for Yankuba Minteh rejected.

Liverpool set for flurry of late deals this summer

It’s good to see that Iraola’s beliefs on Liverpool’s squad depth (or lack of) haven’t changed since earlier in the summer transfer window.

And with us still short up front, not to mention in several other departments, it couldn’t be clearer to the neutral that Liverpool are heading into the new campaign without an appropriate array of tools.

Mind, we still expect the club to eventually shake hands on a deal for Barcola, given that PSG now appear to have an overabundance of wide players following recent deals for Mika Godts and Ferran Torres.

Iraola’s comments suggest Liverpool will address key areas

The forward line is in most desperate need of immediate reinforcements ahead of the start of the Premier League season.

As things stand, Liverpool can’t call upon a natural right-sided winger (beyond Federico Chiesa) and they’re lacking experienced quality on the opposing flank that meets Andoni Iraola’s needs.

Bradley Barcola and either Ibrahim Mbaye or Brighton and Hove Albion’s Yankuba Minteh would address those two particular issues. However, we still have serious concerns around our apparent lack of depth in central areas, with Alexander Isak’s fitness record leaving much to be desired.

Fortunately, it seems we can rely on our new head coach to hammer home the message between now and the end of the window.

You’ve got 11 days to hand Iraola a squad fit to compete this season, Liverpool. Don’t leave him with nothing but a bucket and a water gun to stave off a wildfire.

Liverpool expected to push for Yankuba Minteh

The Daily Mail’s Lewis Steele reports that Liverpool are expected to come back with an improved proposal for Minteh’s signature.

The Gambian features on an extensive shortlist of options to bolster the right flank this summer.

  1. Well – how much more crazier do the hiring team have to get at LFC/Minteh is injured and we put a bid in for him/a player that will be out for sometime well into the new seasons games – now that right there is putting more pressure on rather than alleviating it…just crazy in the extreme. Am I nuts or is it not true we need a back up for Isak whilst Ekitike is injured/preferably a forward that can play a number of positions up front! We need a right winger now – that is the priority…we need to sell Gapko and get a left winger (not Barcola/over rated and too pricy), we need a proper number 6 (have needed one for three years now/well done buying team/Hughes!), we need to sell
Tsimikas and buy a left back replacement to back up Kerkez…and I would still probably buy another right back (but that is not now a priority/everything else IS a priority). Not to mention the players that have not been sold that should have been sold by now! Good luck Hughes – to get all that done in 11 days is of course IMPOSSIBLE….So we will go into this season again undermanned/so who’s responsiblity/fault is that??? YNWA.

  2. same old. We’ve been here before, having our expectations managed, with an array of smoke and mirrors.
