Liverpool may have been given fresh encouragement over a potential transfer pursuit of Lamine Camara for 2027 after what Monaco’s sporting director reportedly told the midfielder.
The 22-year-old was involved in one of the most dramatic episodes of transfer deadline day as Chelsea had a £38.5m bid for him rejected before the Ligue 1 club agreed to a subsequent £47m deal, only to pull the plug after Folarin Balogun’s proposed move to Everton collapsed (Sky Sports).
Anfield chiefs reportedly contacted Les Monegasques on Tuesday to ask them to delay any sale of the Senegal international, although Ben Jacobs clarified on talkSPORT that they didn’t directly interfere in the Blues’ pursuit of the player.
Camara promised lucrative transfer ‘very soon’
BBC Sport reporter Nizaar Kinsella took to X in the early hours of Wednesday morning to outline the key talking points from an ‘interesting’ press conference with Monaco sporting director Thiago Scuro.
The Ligue 1 club’s chief said that Camara had asked to leave the Stade Louis II, before reassuring the player that he would secure a major transfer ‘very soon’ and could eventually have ‘even better options than he did yesterday’.
The journalist added that the 22-year-old is set to return to action for Monaco in their next fixture and ‘remains fully committed and professional’ despite not getting his desired move to England.

Does that offer fresh hope to Liverpool of 2027 deal for Camara?
With Scuro informing Camara that Les Monegasques may be open to a sale in 2027 and that he might soon have ‘even better options’ on the table, that could provide Liverpool with fresh hope over a prospective move to Anfield next year.
The Reds’ patience might eventually pay off if they’re able to lure him to Merseyside, but many supporters will feel that Andoni Iraola’s side could’ve done with him now, considering the well-documented defensive midfield issues that we’ve been suffering.
The sample size might be very small (just two games), but the 22-year-old has shown at the start of the Ligue 1 campaign just how proficient he can be at breaking up opposition attacks and also then getting his team on the front foot (see table below, with stats from Fotmob).

With none of Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister or Dominik Szoboszlai all tending to be more forward-thinking than safety-first in their play, Liverpool have been left horrendously exposed on the counterattack in recent games.
Camara might well be the man to finally plug that gap in Iraola’s line-up. It’s a shame that we’ll have to wait until next year at the earliest to bring him in, but hopefully a few extra months of waiting (if the Reds do sign him) would prove to be worth it.
